Because there were several different types of structures on
the campus, we had to utilize several different methods to accommodate
the needs of each.
Several structures required net flap devices, the two large
dorm buildings and the gymnasium structure required boxing in
the roof AC vent areas and installing escape flaps to allow
the bats safe exit. The fountain gazebo required netting the
entire structure to prevent bats from reentering. The inner
column had to be custom wrapped to allow the bats to exit and
prevent them from reentering. The lower school and IPAC structure
required three different custom made net flap devices and one
way valves to allow the bats safe exit and prevent reentrance.
The most difficult area was in the 3 story dorm
buildings where the soffit vent screens had deteriorated . Replacement
inserts were no longer available. We had to make custom inserts
using recessed light fixtures with special exclusion escape tubes
hanging from them. Once the bats were gone the tubes were removed
and the fixtures were then custom fitted with wire screening.
Access was gained using a 50 foot boom lift.
