Private residence - Mountain Lakes, FL

I Description of property

A beautiful mansion located in Mountain Lakes

II Description of problem

This home was residence to a combined colony of free-tailed and evening bats. The bats chose to reside in the roof void of the guest house and in the roof void of the elevator tower of this home.

One of the larger colonies we have found in such a confined area, our main concern with this project was the safety of the bats at the time of their emergence. Because so many bats would be exiting at the same time from just a few points we were worried that some might become tangled or confused, causing unnecessary stress to the bats.

III Method used

We resolved the problem by installing spacers between the exclusion net and the roof tiles. We decided to rent a man lift boom and be present when the bats emerged. On the first nights emergence two of our staff members entered the boom and rose to the top of the elevator to to await the emergence. A count of emerging bats was performed that resulted in the estimation of the colony size at approximately 2000+ bats

IV Unique attributes of project

Access to the elevator tower had to be gained by use of a boom lift. We froze our Florida butts off since it was only 50 degrees during the time the job was done.

V Project duration

All bats were safely evicted, and permanently excluded within 2 days.
