I Description of property
Private residence located in Floyd, Virginia
II Description of problem
This private residence was home to an unusually large
colony of big brown bats. The estimated size of the
colony was over 500. After years of using the attic
as their home, the odor from the accumulated guano and
urine in the attic began to pose an unpleasant problem
and possible health risk to the homeowner.
Our crew flew from Florida to Virginia
to perform the work just after the completion of maternity
season. Upon arrival our crew installed several exclusion
devices to allow the bats safe exit. Then the sanitation
and guano removal project began.

Even though the photo is not the best, you
can see the pile of guano and stained attic insulation.

IV Unique attributes of project
As often happens, Friends of Bats was chosen after several
failed attempts.
Wearing full hazardous waste removal gear, two crew members
began to physically remove the guano and urine soaked insulation.
After two days of cleanup, Friends of Bats removed 17 - 30
gallon bags full of guano and urine soaked insulation.
V Project duration
After 4 days/3 nights all the bats were safely
excluded, structural repairs were made to the building, and the
attic area was clean and usable again.
