San Pedro Church - Port Charlotte, FL

I Description of property

This large multilevel facility had thousands of bats roosting beneath it's Spanish clay roof tiles. It was determined that there were 3 separate colonies of free-tailed bats living in various levels of the facility roof voids.

II Description of problem

San Pedro church had bats roosting heavily in several areas of the Church roof voids under the barrel tiles. They became a problem when the number of bats dramatically increased, disturbing night services, and when they started to fly in the church during services.

III Method used

With a two-man crew the entire roof was bat excluded using exclusion flaps in various areas and then sealing the entire roof to keep bats from reentering the roof voids.

IV Unique attributes for this particular project

Because the roof tiles were clay, our crews had to walk very carefully while working on the roof. We did not break a single tile!
The cross tower was over 90 feet high, which made access very difficult. It could only be reached with a 100 foot boom.

V Project duration

Total job time was 5 working days.
