I Description of property
A flat roofed facility with aluminum flashing
covering the roof hip wall became home to approximately 300 free-tailed
bats. The bats became a problem when they began to enter the office
areas of the building.
II Description of problem
During construction repair work of the roof flashing,
a large colony of bats was discovered living between the flashing
and the wall expansion joints. Construction work was halted and
could not restart until FOB was called in to remove the bats.
Work had to begin immediately in order to remove the bats so that
the roof flashing could be reinstalled before any rain came.
Work began at 5 AM on a Friday with the installation
of exclusion flaps over the entire roof flashing of the building.
This was accomplished in only 1 hour with a 3 man crew.
IV Unique attributes of project
Although a fairly simple project, special care
had to be taken since the flat roof was a rubber membrane material.
This type of roof coverings tears easily, but, with our numerous
years of experience and care for customer property, it was no
problem.
We returned on Tuesday to a bat free building,
removed the flaps and sealed the structure for permanent bat exclusion.
