I Description of property
Mara Villa is a beautiful subdivision in the Prestancia,
located in Sarasota. Views of golf courses and nature surround
the beautiful homes. Wildlife of all sorts is plentiful, birds,
snakes, alligators, and of course, bats.
The complex is divided into 3 Phases.
Phase I
Consists of 11 homes in a multiplex setup and a 4 story
mid-rise structure.

Phase III (not shown) consists of the pool clubhouse
structure. |
II Description of problem
Colonies of bats had taken residence in many different
locations of the complex. There had been several exclusion attempts
by another firm that had all failed.
|
III Method used
Each Phase is constructed differently and required various
methods of exclusion. The mid-rise structure had gone
through 3 failed exclusion attempts before Friends of
Bats was consulted. Our crews had to remove material from
all prior attempts before we could begin.

Working atop the mid-rise
|
Several colonies of bats were present in various areas of the
structure. Eighteen custom made exclusion tubes and exclusion
flaps were designed to allow a safe exit for the bats.
The 46 homes each had various construction deficiencies that
required different custom methods of exclusion.
IV Unique attributes of project
Prior to excluding the present colonies from their roost sites,
we decided to exclude the smaller colonies first and start the
mid rise facility.
The size of the facility was one aspect that made
this project interesting. The other was the fact that we spent
3 work days just removing materials from the failed previous attempts
before we could begin our work.
|
V Project duration
It took Friends of Bats only 15 working days to complete
46 homes, the pool house and the 4 story mid-rise
