Liberty Elementary School - Port Charlotte, FL

I Description of property

The Liberty School campus consisted of several one story structures.

II Description of problem

In a few of the structures, bats had decided to move in to live under the metal flashing in various areas.

The bats became a problem when children began to find some sick or injured bats on the grounds, also when the bats moved into a section of the facility where the school buses picked up and dropped off the children. Early in the morning while the bats were returning home after a long night of eating mosquitos, they appeared to be dodging the children.

III Method used

We utilized our flap and seal method by installing large exclusion flaps along the entire roof ledge of every building on campus. Each building required flaps, each flap was 3 feet wide by over 300 feet long. There were 9 buildings on the campus plus vestibules. Once free of bats the flaps were removed and net tubes with silicone inserts were installed inside the entire flashing. The inserts are virtually invisible.

IV Unique attributes of project

Completing the work in a timely fashion without disturbing the staff and students was very important to the client.

V Project duration

Within a few days the bats were safely removed and excluded.
