I Description of property
This State Park consists of hundreds of acres
of beautiful Florida landscape, wilderness and wildlife. Deer,
hundreds of species of birds, insects, alligators, reptiles, bats
and humans all enjoy this wonderful facility.
II Description of problem
Unfortunately, bats chose to live in one of the restroom facilities.
A large amount of bat guano and associated smell, kept humans
from using the restrooms. (Besides, the bats refused to put
the seats down!)
A previous "in-house" attempt to exclude
the bats had failed and Friends of Bats was called on to help.
|
III Method used
Friends of Bats decided to use a different approach.
We installed a bat house with a top open entry at the
main entrance point to the facility that the bats were
using (see photo). After a few days we installed our exclusion
devices and within 3 days the bat house was full. For
the safety of the bats, the bathouse was removed from
the structure and installed on a pole system 200 feet
away.
Once all the bats were out of the structure, we proceeded
to clean and sanitize the voids and then seal the building.

IV Unique attributes of project
The best part of this job was working 5 miles into the Park,
away from the hustle and bustle of crowds.
The worst part was that it was right at the edge
of the river. We had to keep one eye on the river banks at all
times!
This job was completed in 2 work days.
