C. R. Chicks - Palm City, FL

I Description of property

C. R. Chicks is a fast food restaurant with a covered drive-thru.

II Description of problem

Bats were living in the roof over the drive-through and in the roof above the drive-through. The structure had been home to bats for quite a while. The property management company had tried hiring an animal "trapper" and had used a pest control firm, but both attempts failed. Feces were falling to the ground and the public found this to be offensive.

III Method used

A crew installed nets to exclude the bats from the drive-thru roof section. Then the upper roof section was netted. The installation took less than one day. After several days passed all the potential bat entry areas were sealed. The roofing contractor then came in and repaired the roof.

IV Unique attributes of project

A new problem arose when the upper section of the facility roof developed a leak (this is section missing tiles shown in the picture above). Luckily for the bats the company refused to open the roof until the bats were safely removed and Friends of Bats was hired.

Special Note: The property manager has agreed to allow the bats to remain and live in the upper roof tower of the facility (far left of picture).

V Project duration

Total job time was 2 days
