I Description of property
This one-story shopping plaza was home to 5,000
free-tail and evening bats. After two prior exclusion attempts
the management company called in Friends of Bats.
II Description of problem
The property had bats living in the front mansard
and under the mansard tiles. The first attempt at bat removal
was done using wire mesh excluder tubes and failed because the
bats simply used other spaces in the tiles to enter the mansard.
The second attempt was a giant net placed over the tiles and left
in place permanently. The problem was that the net kept ripping
and blowing off in spots allowing the bats to reenter, and it
looked horrible.
A process called "flap and seal" was
initiated and within 8 days all of the bats and the ugly nets
were gone!
IV Unique attributes of project
Although the entire process took 8 days, most
of the time was allotted to give the bats sufficient time to relocate.
Our 8 man crew completed all of the actual labor
in 13 hours.
